Running Reindeer Ranch outside of Fairbanks Alaska is one of the most unique tours that we went on during our week in Alaska. We would highly recommend the reindeer hike and walk to anyone. As you approach the gate to the ranch, you can't help but notice that there is a small free lending library facing the road, open to anyone who would like to take or leave a book.
The library itself is very handsome, having been built with Cedar planking and glass panes so that you can see what books are in there. The handles are made of shed reindeer antlers, giving it a unique artistic touch.
On the day we visited, there were about two dozen books in this free lending library, with books from for all ages. Since we did not have a book to leave, we declined to take a book with us -- Even though we were encouraged by ranch staff to please take a book even if we could not leave one.
