Le Moucherotte est ce sommet qui domine Grenoble. On se dit qu’il faudrait bien aller là-haut pour voir ce qu’il s’y passe. La randonnée ne présente aucune grande difficulté et offre un panorama vraiment saisissant sur le paysage alpin isérois !

The Moucherotte is the summit that dominates Grenoble. We say to ourselves that we should go up there to see what happens. The hike does not present any great difficulty and offers a really seizing panorama on the alpine landscape of Grenoble!
Le Moucherotte (1901m) est le sommet le plus septentrionnal de la barrière de calcaire du Vercors. On y accède par un sentier depuis St Nizier du Moucherotte, au sommet la vue est époustouflante sur la vallée Grenoble et les massifs environnants.
The Moucherotte (1901m) is the northernmost summit of the Vercors limestone barrier. It is reached by a path from St Nizier du Moucherotte, at the top the view is breathtaking on the Grenoble valley and the surrounding massifs.

Le Moucherotte est un sommet du département français de l'Isère s'élevant à 1 901 mètres d'altitude dans le massif du Vercors, dans les Alpes. Situé à l'extrémité nord-est du massif, il se termine par les rochers des Trois Pucelles, sur sa crête septentrionale, et domine l'agglomération de Grenoble. Il est composé de calcaires, notamment de l'Urgonien dans sa partie supérieure.
L'histoire de la montagne est marquée par la présence, de la fin des années 1950 au milieu des années 1970, d'un hôtel de luxe accessible par une télécabine depuis Saint-Nizier-du-Moucherotte et apprécié de nombreuses célébrités. Il donne accès à une piste de ski redescendant du sommet. En 1968, l'épreuve de saut à ski des Jeux olympiques de Grenoble se tient au grand tremplin de Saint-Nizier, au pied des Trois Pucelles. Toutefois, l'isolement de l'établissement par mauvais temps et son manque de rentabilité entraînent sa fermeture puis l'arrêt de la télécabine. Le tremplin tombe en délabrement à partir des années 1990. La silhouette de l'hôtel se détache au sommet jusqu'en 2001, date de sa destruction. Un radar hydrométéorologique s'y dresse depuis 2014.
Le sommet est accessible en randonnée pédestre depuis Saint-Nizier-du-Moucherotte, soit en longeant la crête septentrionale, soit par le versant oriental, ou depuis Lans-en-Vercors par le sud. L'abri du Moucherotte et le habert des Ramées permettent de trouver un refuge pour la nuit. Si l'escalade se pratique sur la paroi nord-est du Moucherotte qui compte deux voies, cette discipline sportive s'est surtout développée aux Trois Pucelles à partir des années 1920, avec une trentaine de voies répertoriées ; des résistants s'y sont même réfugiés en juin 1944. La grotte Vallier, sur le versant oriental, permet la pratique de la spéléologie. La montagne fait partie du parc naturel régional du Vercors et d'une zone naturelle d'intérêt écologique, faunistique et floristique. Le chamois et le mouflon y sont notamment présents.

The Moucherotte is a peak in the French department of Isère, rising to an altitude of 1,901 meters in the Vercors massif in the Alps. Located at the northeastern end of the massif, it ends with the Trois Pucelles rocks on its northern ridge and dominates the city of Grenoble. It is composed of limestones, in particular of the Urgonian in its upper part.
The history of the mountain is marked by the presence, from the end of the 1950s to the mid-1970s, of a luxury hotel accessible by a gondola from Saint-Nizier-du-Moucherotte and appreciated by many celebrities. It gives access to a ski slope coming down from the summit. In 1968, the ski jumping event of the Grenoble Olympic Games was held at the big jump of Saint-Nizier, at the foot of the Trois Pucelles. However, the isolation of the establishment by bad weather and its lack of profitability lead to its closure and the stopping of the gondola. The ski jump fell into disrepair in the 1990s. The silhouette of the hotel stands out at the top until 2001, when it was destroyed. A hydrometeorological radar has been installed there since 2014.
The summit is accessible by hiking from Saint-Nizier-du-Moucherotte, either along the northern ridge, or by the eastern slope, or from Lans-en-Vercors by the south. The shelter of Moucherotte and the habert des Ramées allow to find a shelter for the night. If climbing is practiced on the north-east wall of Moucherotte, which has two routes, this sport has developed especially at the Trois Pucelles from the 1920s, with about thirty routes listed; resistance fighters even took refuge there in June 1944. The Vallier cave, on the eastern slope, allows the practice of speleology. The mountain is part of the Vercors regional natural park and a natural area of ecological, faunistic and floristic interest. The chamois and the mouflon are notably present there.
