The city of Berlin built this Berlin Platz with original pieces of the Berlin Wall for the city of Seoul. The following text is taken from signs on site.
"The parts of the wall symbolize the peaceful overcoming of the division of Germany and the hope for a peaceful unification of the Korean peninsula."
The Berlin Wall (height 3.5m, width 1.2m, thickness 0.4m) was built by East Germany in
1961 and it was displayed in Marzahn park after it was demolished on 1989.
There were wishes of reunification of Germany and reunion of separated families written on the West Germany side of the Berlin Wall which was the only wall that could be visited by people.
The bear statue installed on the right side of Berlin Wall is the symbol of Berlin. Each side of the bear's body has pictures of South gate, Brandenburg and citizens of West and East Germany.
Street lights installed in this park are traditional German street lights that are made 100
years ago. Also, there were traditional German style pavement and chairs.
With WOORI BANK's support, Seoul Park has also been built inside Marzahn park in Berlin by Seoul Metropolitan Government.
