This lock is called Rhinau and can be found by the village of the same name upstream of Strasbourg.
Like all the locks on the 184 km French portion of the river Rhine there are actually a pair of locks. The largest of the pair at Rhinau is 185 x 23 metres and the other is 185 x 13 metres. This is the size of the majority of the other pairs. Those downstream of Strasbourg are 270 metres in length but the same widths.
The centre of the river marks the border between France and Germany along the full length of the French portion of the river.
Each of the French locks also has hydroelectric power generation, consequently water levels can fluctuate greatly depending upon the demand for power.
