The
Itaipu Dam hosts one of the largest hydroelectric power station in the world, second in production only to the Three Gorges Dam in China. The station is a cooperative between Brazil and Paraguay, with ten generators operating for each side. Since the demand on the Paraguay side is lower than the dam's output, most of that power is exported directly to Brazil. The plant is managed by Itaipu Binacional, a company jointly owned by Brazil and Paraguay.
