The name of the park is a play on words on dinosaurs, the nearby river Tees and the wider area of Teeside. As well as 5 types of dinosaurs, there is also a statue of a woolly mammoth which came much later in history and an abstract piece of sculpture on the Tees Sculpture Trail. Even the abstract sculpture is partly inspired by dinosaurs as it is close to a family group of Triceratops and is egg shaped and dinosaurs laid eggs.

The sculptures made of steel and full size and made to look similar to dinosaur skeletons more normally seen in a museum. Originally the sculptures were plain but have recently been refurbished and painted in a variety of colours.

Each sculpture has an information board with key facts about the particular type of dinosaur.
