Black Lion Inn is located in the heart of Churnet Valley in the beautiful the Staffordshire countryside.
To reach the pub from the car park you cross over the Caldon Canal and the Churnet Valley Railway line. Consall station is approximately 100yds away and in full view from the beer garden. The canal, snaking underneath the railway line, coupled with the pleasant roar of the river falling over a weir and the wonderful tree clad valley sides it is a heavenly place to sit and relax. 'Top country pub 'closed until further notice' after fire'

'It is not yet known when The Black Lion, near Wetley Rocks, will reopen
A popular pub remains 'closed until further notice' following a fire. The blaze broke out at The Black Lion, near Wetley Rocks, last weekend.

It has led to the closure of the Consall Forge pub which is nestled in the heart of the Churnet valley and enjoys views of Churnet Valley Railway. Now the licensees have apologised for any 'inconvenience' caused by the unexpected closure.

In a social media post to regulars, the venue said: "We will be closed until further notice after a fire broke out in the Black Lion. Thankfully no-one was hurt and we were able to evacuate the building promptly.

"As you can all understand this is a difficult time for both myself and my team and we would like to thank you all for your continued support. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. We will keep you all updated."

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service was called to the venue at 4pm on Sunday, September 25. Fire crews from Longton, Hanley, Leek and Ipstones attended the incident. The cause of the blaze has still not been disclosed.

A fire service spokesman said: "At 4pm on Sunday, September 25, Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service was called to a fire at the Black Lion, in Consall Forge. Crews from Leek, Ipstones, Longton and Hanley used a main jet, a hose reel jet and breathing apparatus to extinguish the blaze."'
