With 190 meters it is 23rd on the list of tallest buildings in the Netherlands. It is originally a TV tower, built to transmit TV and radio signals.

"The tower stands on the west side of the city and has a beautiful view over the Oostvaardersplassen. This tower from 1975 has a height of 190 meters (including mast). In order to give the port area of the city a little more impulse, the tower was 'put in the light' in March 2014 and became a real beacon in the landscape.
The tower is not open to the public, but in 2013 the tower was opened as part of Heppie View Lelystad and in 2016 for Open Monument Day."
