The First Congregational Church was established in 1827. The congregation met in a rented meeting house. The Congregation outgrew the meeting house and constructed the present church in 1863.
The brick Romanesque Revival style church with stone trim was designed by Charles Edward Parker. The main block has a gable roof and a large entrance framed by a Romanesque arch. Above the entrance is a very large rose window. Near the apex of the gable are three slender Romanesque windows. The center window being tall than the other two.
On the west side is a smaller entrance. Above this entrance two Romanesque windows framed by a Romanesque arch.
A tower rises on the NE corner of the building. The lower part has two lancet windows with rounded tops. Above is a single lancet window with a rounded top. The next level is a belfry with Romanesque louvered windows. The tower is topped by a tapered octagonal spire topped with a cross.
The east side is six bays wide with Romanesque stained glass windows at each bay. The west side has three slender windows, two over one, at the first bay and five Romanesque stained glass windows at the 2nd through 6th bay. An addition is attached to the back of the church.
