For his 27-foot sculpture, Daetwyler used driftwood scavenged from the shore of Lake Huron. The Boat Project was commissioned by the McMaster Museum of Art in 2018. In 2021, The Boat Project was featured in temporary residence at the Cambridge Sculpture Garden. As of May 2022, it is now in its permanent location in the greenspace outside the McMaster Museum of Art, back for the appreciation of the students and the community.
