The original dam at this location was built in 1846 by John Berry to power a gristmill. Back in those days the spring at this site had a flow of approximately two to three million gallons of water per day. The mill was swept away by a flood in 1921.
This property was turned into a park in 2005. In 2013 the dam was replaced by this current 120 ft wide / six foot tall concrete dam with 560 ft of cement embankment.
Unfortunately, the spring is currently not producing even enough water to overflow the dam. Water from the overflow, when there is any, flows into nearby Berry Creek.
