PT: "A travessia do Tâmega transformou o local em zona de passagem obrigatória, determinando um desenvolvimento urbanistico a longo de um eixo viário tradicional, na ligação da zona de Entre-Douro-e-Minho com a de Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro. Estrutura urbanística composta por ruas lineares e relativamente estreitas de traçado sinuoso e irregular que confluem de ambas as margens do rio Tamega para a Ponte de S. Gonçalo. O casario existente em ambos os lados das ruas caracteriza-se pelas construções tipo da casa urbana tradicional; a casa sobre o comprido e baixa, com rés-do-chão e andar nobre, frequentemente brasonada e a casa estreita, alta e vertical, com vários andares e portas, janelas e varandas voltadas à rua. Dentro deste tipo de habitação as variáveis são muitas, normalmente em pedra visível nas molduras de portas, janelas e varandas - é, também, frequente o último andar ser em tabique de onde sobressai o madeiramento pintado das molduras das portas e janelas. A varanda, por norma asociada ao último piso é em resalto, sobre falsa cornija ou em avanço à rua, ocupando quase sempre toda a fachada, com gradeamentos em ferro ou balustradas de madeira pintada."
EN: "The crossing of Tâmega River transformed the location into a mandatory zone of passage, leading to an urban development along a traditional central road, connecting the area of Entre-Douro-e-Minho with Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro, It has an urban structure composed of linear and relatively narrow streets that wind irregularly, which converges on both banks of the Tämega River to the S. Gonçalo bridge. The existing houses on both sides of the streets are characterized by traditional urban construction, a long and low house, with a ground and a noble floor, frequently emblazoned and the house, narrow, high and vertical, with severul floors and doors, windows and balcones facing the street. Within this type of housing are inany variables, usually in stone visible in the door, window and balcony frames on the top floor is also frequently panelled from which the painted woodwork of the door and window frames stand out. The balcony, normally associated with the top floor protrudes, on false cornice or encroaching the street, occupying almost always the entire facade, with iron railings or painted, wooden balustrades."
