PT: "Ponte de arquitectura civil barroca e neoclásica, construida nos finais do século XVIII, com risco de Carlos Amarante e sensivelmente no mesmo local da primitiva ponte medieval cuja construção é lendariamente atribuída a S. Gonçalo e que ruiu a 10 de Fevereiro de 1763, durante uma cheia.
Local onde, em 1809 e durante catorze dias ocorreu a "Defesa da Ponte de Amarante" contra o exército da 23 invasão francesa em fuga para Trás-os-Montes. Sobre três arcos desiguais, em que o central é maior assenta o tabuleiro de perfil horizontal. O parapeto que resguarda o tabuleiro da ponte, assenta numa cornija tubular e lavada de onde partem os pilares reforcados por un contrafortes a montante e a jusante. Como cordamento superior dos contrafortes, abrem-se no tabuleiro quatro varandins semi-circulares, com bancadas de cantaria. Em cada topo, a ponte ostenta dos pares de coruchéus barrocos facetados e assentes em pequenas erferas.

The present bridge of St. Goncalo was built with a baroque architecture style in the XVIll century. It replaces another bridge, whose legendary construction is endorsed to St. Gonçalo himself that fell during a flood on the 10th February1763.
In 1809 the defence of the city of Amarante was held in this bridge, against the Napoleonic Invasiors."
