"Hoch über dem Kylltal gelegen, zeugen Überreste von der Vergangenheit der Kronenburg. 1277 wurde sich zum ersten mal urkundlich erwähnt. Zu den Füßen der Burg hatte sich eng und winklig ein Dörfchen entwickelt, dass noch heute weitgehend in ursprünglicher Form erhalten ist. Unebenes Pflaster und geduckte Bogen lassen das Lebensgefühl vor Jahrhunderten erahnen" so beschreibt u.a. der Landschaftsverband Rheinland den Ort Kronenburg.

Die Burg Kronenburg ist heute nur noch eine Ruine, die stockwerketief von den eigenen Trümmern verschüttet wurde. Der Blick von dort oben lohnt jedoch den Weg hinauf.

"Situated high above the Kyll valley, remains bear witness to Kronenburg's past. It was first mentioned in a document in 1277. At the foot of the castle, a small village had developed, narrow and angular, which is still largely preserved in its original form. Uneven paving and crooked arches give an idea of the way of life centuries ago" is how the Landschaftsverband Rheinland (Rhineland Regional Association) describes the village of Kronenburg.

Today, Kronenburg Castle is only a ruin, buried storey-deep by its own rubble. However, the view from up there is worth the walk.
