"The pilgrimage church of St. Mary Beurig
The church is a two-nave Gothic hall building and was extensively renovated in 1970-74. The most valuable possession is the altar of grace made of sandstone, marble and alabaster. In 1622 it was donated by the von der Fels family; the artist, Johannes Manternach, belonged to the workshop of the Trier sculptor Rupprecht Hoffmann. The altar was created for the image of grace and its shape of the tree of life is reminiscent of the pilgrimage legend. The image of grace itself was probably created around 1300. In the 17th century, the figure was dressed, but since the restoration in 1954, it is shown in its original form, as a nursing Madonna. The altar of the cross, like the altar of grace a very beautiful work of the late Renaissance, is also attributed to Manternach."
