The September 11, 2001 Memorial at Firefighter's Memorial Park in Burrillville, Rhode Island, includes a preserved steel remnant and a dedication plaque. The beam is 10 feet tall (plus three additional feet below ground), two feet wide, three inches thick and stands vertically. The landmark is centered on a small round patio of light paver bricks and flanked to the east and west by a pair of posts of granite salvaged from former Burrillville mills. In the the shape of Egyptian obelisks, they represent the Twin Towers. A cast bronze plaque is mounted to a red mottled granite tablet immediately outside the terrace's south edge. A relief of the World Trade Center and surrounding buildings occupies the left third of the plaque. An inscription fills the remainder and reads:
SEPTEMBER 11, 2001

This World Trade Center steel artifact
#L-0021 is dedicated as a tribute to the
brave firelighters, police officers, and
emergency personnel who gave their
lives while aiding their fellow man
following the unprecedented act of
terrorism against our country.
Their courage, compassion, and
loyalty to their duty during a time of
national distress defines the strength
and character of our great nation.

NEVER FORGET

The artifact arrived in Burrillville with the aid of former Harrisville Fire Chief Mark St. Pierre and U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse. A town vehicle retrieved the piece from Hangar 17 at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York. It was installed by volunteers from the water department and other fire stations. A pole truck from Pascoag Utility District raised the beam and set it in place. A pair of ground-level lamps uplight the piece after dark. (Source: Northern Rhode Island News On the Web)

The park is north of the Harrisville Fire District station on Route 98, at its junction with Callahan School Street where Sherman Farm Road and Harrisville Main Street merge.
