The village of Longforgan is situated in the south-eastern Perthshire, some five miles to the west of the city of Dundee, and by-passed to the north by the A90 dual-carriageway between Perth and Dundee. A church was founded here by St Modwenna who died in 521, and a church was built on the current site in 1400. When this building fell into disrepair in 1894, a new church was built on its site, incorporating the 1690 built tower of the original into the west gable.

The graveyard on the site is largely to the south, on the opposite side from the Main Street. It features gravestones from the 16th to 20th century, most of the older ones being unreadable. A newer cemetery has been extended south of here, linked from the churchyard by a lychgate.
