Dr. Rafe Sagarin, a marine econogist, was an associate research scientist at Biosphere 2. He was an adjunct assistant professor for the School of Natural Resources and the Environment. Dr. Sagarin was killed while riding his bicycle along Highway 77 between Biosphere 2 and Oracle. His vision for his career was, using an ecooceanic system, to make a desert sea more like the Sea of Cortez. He had a vision of a sustainable ocean in the desert.
It is believed the driver that struck Dr. Sagarin was impaired.
