All ice hockey competition at the 2002 Winter Olympics was held in two arenas: the E Center (now Maverick Center) in West Valley City just outside Salt Lake City, and the Peaks Ice Arena in Provo, about 45 miles from Salt Lake City. Both arenas were built specifically for the 2002 games, however, both were meant to be permanent structures.
Ice Hockey at these Olympics was dominated by Canada who took the gold medal in both the men’s and the women’s competition, while the United States took both silver medals. Most of the elimination and medal rounds were held at the E Center, but the women’s bronze medal game, won by Sweden 2-1 over Finland, was played here at the Peaks Arena.
