The dated stone is located in the center of the west portal. The date, 1907 is carved into the Keystone shape of the Pennsylvania Railroad. There is a second stone above the dated stone that reads: "A.C.Shand, Chief Engineer, McMenamin & Sims, Contractors". The tunnel replaced an earlier tunnel just a few yards from this location.
