The Foundation stone was laid on 4 August 1875 and completed on 2 September 1876 for male patients,the female ward was completed in 1880. The single storey building is constructed of decorative, concrete work with a gabled entrance way decorated to complement the sets of three windows with Norman arches.
The hospital closed in 1956 and since 1970 has been the Museum of The Glen Innes and District Historical Society.
