Het nieuwe gemeentehuis van de gemeente en stad Rhenen bevindt zich op de Nieuwe Veenendaalseweg 75. Het is een simpel maar groot gebouw met een bakstenen buitenkant. In het gebouw bevinden zich ook het politiebureau en de bibliotheek. Het heeft waarschijnlijk in de tweede helft van de 20e eeuw de functie van gemeente- en stadshuis overgenomen van een monumentaal pand in de binnenstad van Rhenen.

Rhenen is een stad en gemeente in de Nederlandse provincie Utrecht. De gemeente telt 20.264 inwoners (31 januari 2022) en heeft een oppervlakte van 42,99 km² (waarvan 1,28 km² water). De gemeente omvat naast de stad Rhenen, de dorpen Elst en Achterberg.

Rhenen verkreeg in 1258 stadsrechten nadat de plaats in 855 als 'villa Hreni' (buurschap Rhenen) voor het eerst werd genoemd. In de Middeleeuwen was Rhenen het meest vooruitgeschoven steunpunt van de bisschop van Utrecht in zijn voortdurende strijd tegen de graven, later hertogen, van Gelre. De bisschop bezat hier het kasteel Ter Horst, dat uiteindelijk in 1543 werd afgebroken. Na de centralisatie van het landsbestuur door keizer Karel V bleef Rhenen eeuwenlang een rustig garnizoensstadje, dat als een van de vijf steden van het Sticht een bescheiden rol speelde in het bestuur van het gewest.

In de 17e eeuw had de verdreven koning Frederik V van de Palts een zomerresidentie in Rhenen. Hij liet het paleis in 1630-1631 bouwen naar ontwerp van de Haagse architect Bartholomeus van Bassen. Dit Koningspaleis, zoals het werd genoemd, werd in 1812 afgebroken. Momenteel herinneren in Rhenen alleen nog een gedenksteen en de straatnaam Frederik van de Paltshof aan het verblijf van de vorst.

The new town hall of the municipality and city of Rhenen is located at Nieuwe Veenendaalseweg 75. It is a simple but large building with a brick exterior. The building also houses the police station and the library. It probably took over the function of town hall and town hall from a monumental building in the center of Rhenen in the second half of the 20th century.

Rhenen is a city and municipality in the Dutch province of Utrecht. The municipality has 20,264 inhabitants (January 31, 2022) and has an area of 42.99 km² (of which 1.28 km² is water). In addition to the city of Rhenen, the municipality includes the villages of Elst and Achterberg.

Rhenen received city rights in 1258 after the place was first mentioned in 855 as 'villa Hreni' (neighborhood Rhenen). In the Middle Ages, Rhenen was the most advanced point of support for the bishop of Utrecht in his constant struggle against the counts, later dukes, of Gelre. The bishop owned the Ter Horst castle here, which was eventually demolished in 1543. After the centralization of the government by Emperor Charles V, Rhenen remained a quiet garrison town for centuries, which, as one of the five cities of the Sticht, played a modest role in the administration of the region.

In the 17th century, the expelled King Frederick V of the Palatinate had a summer residence in Rhenen. He had the palace built in 1630-1631 to a design by the Hague architect Bartholomeus van Bassen. This Royal Palace, as it was called, was demolished in 1812. Currently, only a memorial stone and the street name Frederik van de Palatinate in Rhenen remind us of the monarch's stay.
