The Bridge of Lyon was built in 1793 by engineer Archibald Ballantyne over the River Lyon in highland Perthshire near the geographical centre of mainland Scotland. It is a three-span rubble built bridge with three segmental arches of unequal size and triangular cutwaters.
The bridge now carries the C449 (Perth and Kinross) road between Fearnan on the shore of Loch Tay to Fortingall at the foot of Glen Lyon. The bridge crosses the river as it changes to a northerly course before turning westwards to head up Scotland's longest glen.
The date stone can be found on the north parapet and reads as follows:
'ARCHIBALD
BALLANTYNE
HIS WORK
1793'
