The coat of arms of Nieuwerbrug is in fact not a municipal coat of arms but a family coat of arms relating to the place Nieuwerbrug. Gerrit Brouwer wanted to leave something for the village where he lived from 1947 and had a barbershop. He and his son Cees registered a weapon in 1980. Gerrit Brouwer passed away in 1982.
The weapon is a speaking weapon, that is, it represents something.
The blue cross represents the Wiericke (dug in 1362) and the Oude Rijn.
To be allowed to sail through the Rhine you had to pay tokens. Hence the three golden circles.
The vertical bar shows a fortress above and below. These forts were part of the Old Dutch Waterline until 1672. This was destroyed in December 1672, after which the current Fort Wierickerschans was built one kilometer towards Bodegraven.
Above the coat of arms is a Brouwersspan. This is the only thing that pertains to the designer.

Het wapen van Nieuwerbrug is in feite geen gemeentewapen maar een familiewapen wat betrekking heeft op de plaats Nieuwerbrug. Gerrit Brouwer wilde iets nalaten voor het dorp waar hij vanaf 1947 woonde en een kapperszaak had. Met zijn zoon Cees liet hij in 1980 een wapen registreren. Gerrit Brouwer overleden in 1982.
Het wapen is een sprekend wapen, dat wil zeggen dat het iets voorstelt.
Het blauwe kruis verbeeldt de Wiericke (gegraven in 1362) en de Oude Rijn.
Om door de Rijn te mogen varen moest je penningen betalen. Vandaar de drie gouden rondjes.
Op de verticale balk staat boven en onder een fort. Deze forten maakten tot 1672 deel uit van de Oude Hollandse Waterlinie. Deze is verwoest in december 1672, waarna er een kilometer richting Bodegraven het huidige fort Wierickerschans is gebouwd.
Boven het wapen staat een Brouwersspaan. Dit is het enige wat op de ontwerper slaat.
