This area was once the site of a religious community known as the Ebenezer Community. The community existed from 1852 to 1859. Another group with similar beliefs lived in West Seneca as well on the US side of the river. In 1859 they moved to Amana Iowa where they lived with a self-sufficient economy until 1932.

PLAQUE TEXT:
"In 1852 this was the site of the Ebenezer religious community of 800 people. It had log houses, a wharf, store, blacksmith shop, sawmill, woolen mill, flour mill, cannery, cabinet shop and a communal dining hall. Their best known product was high quality cotton denim dyed Ebenezer Blue. In 1859 the community moved to Amana, Iowa."
