Founded in October 1504, Myoin-Ji Temple is one of the Nichiren-Shu temple in Japan.

The principal image of worship is "Seated statue of Nichiren Shonin".
The statue, 46 cm (about 18 inch) high, is constructed of Japanese cypress, inlaid with gem-set eyes, and painted in colors.
The statue wears a vestment with a triangular back collar, the formal dress of Nichiren Shoshu monks, and a kesa (priest's robe) over the left shoulder.
The sleeves of the vestments are worn down at the sides of the knees. Holding a sutra scroll in his left hand and a scepter in his right, he is seated on the upper tatami mat of the Seonjiza.
The head and body are made of separate materials, and there is an inscription in ink inside the head, indicating that it was built in February 1565 by Chokatsu, a Buddhist priest.
Chokatsu is known to have been a Buddhist priest of the Dharma eye at the time, and was one of the representative Kamakura Buddhist priests of the late Muromachi period (1333-1573).
