De artiest Jan Nouhuys licht zijn keuze om een deel van een koffiepot op een rotonde te plaatsen toe:
Mijn oorspronkelijke idee was om drie opeenvolgende rotondes te vullen, telkens met een deel van de koffie- of theepot. De weggebruiker zou op die manier de cyclische opbouw van de koffiepot ervaren. Als gevolg van een selectie met andere inzendingen heeft men gekozen voor twee koffiepotversies, waarbij de meest complete koffiepot werd geschrapt. Zo blijft nog steeds het verhaal bestaan.

Ik heb gekozen voor een terugkerend beeld dat zich in opbouwende zin vertoont, of in afbouwende zin, afhankelijk van de richting waarin men rijdt. Een beeld dat qua vorm meteen te relateren is aan de Zilverstad: een schenkkan of koffiepot. De koffiepotten worden bij voorkeur 4,5 meter hoog; zo komen ze tot hun recht. De potten zullen worden uitgevoerd in zilver-wit poedercoated staal. Boven op de pot, op het deksel, keert steeds weer dezelfde gouden knop terug, uitgevoerd in bladgoud. De koffiepot vorm legt de relatie met zilversmeedkunst, het gekozen materiaal, het goud van de knop, de relatie met de goudsmeedkunst. Ik heb me bij mijn ontwerp gericht naar de associatieve werking van het brein. Als ik een plaat zilver laat zien, zegt u: dat is een plaat zilver. Als ik op dezelfde plaat zilver wat kopjes zet, zegt u: dat is een dienblad. Het brein zoekt naar associaties. Ik heb in mijn ontwerp gezocht naar de directheid van een herkenbare koffiepot. Vergelijkbaar met de schop of de fiets die je elders langs de snelweg kunt zien staan. Een direct en vrolijk beeld.

Ik ben blij dat nu hedendaagse objecten op de rotondes komen. Objecten die het huidige beeld van de Zilverstad vertolken. De belangrijkste redenen waarom ik graag deze objecten realiseer en laat plaatsen op een rotonde aan de N210, is ter promotie van de stad, van mijn collega's en van het ambacht.

The artist Jan Nouhuys explains his choice to place part of a coffee pot on a roundabout:
My original idea was to fill three consecutive roundabouts, each time with part of the coffee or teapot. In this way, the road user would experience the cyclical structure of the coffee pot. As a result of a selection with other entries, two coffee pot versions were chosen, with the most complete coffee pot being deleted. Thus the story still exists.

I have opted for a recurring image that shows itself in a constructive sense, or in a decreasing sense, depending on the direction in which one is driving. An image that can be directly related in form to the Silver City: a pitcher or coffee pot. The coffee pots are preferably 4.5 meters high; that's how they come into their own. The pots will be made of silver-white powder-coated steel. On top of the pot, on the lid, the same golden button returns again and again, made in gold leaf. The coffee pot shape establishes the relationship with silversmithing, the chosen material, the gold of the knob, the relationship with goldsmithing. In my design I focused on the associative functioning of the brain. When I show a plate of silver, you say: That is a plate of silver. If I put some cups on the same plate of silver, you say: that's a tray. The brain looks for associations. In my design I looked for the immediacy of a recognizable coffee pot. Similar to the shovel or bicycle you can see elsewhere along the highway. A direct and cheerful image.

I am glad that contemporary objects are now appearing on the roundabouts. Objects that interpret the current image of the Silver City. The main reasons why I like to realize these objects and have them placed on a roundabout on the N210 is to promote the city, my colleagues and the craft.
