The former Shrewsbury District #1 Schoolhouse, a.k.a. the Brick School, was built in 1830. The upper floor once served as the Grand Army of the Republic Meeting Hall. The building was acquired by and is now the headquarters of the Shrewsbury Historical Society.
"Originally intended to be only one floor, the school house was increased another story when citizens prevailed upon the building committee to add a hall upstairs. The lower floor was used for classrooms and the upstairs vaulted hall for local gatherings.
The building was used as a school until 1883, and now houses the Historical Society upstairs and town offices on the main floor. The building is brick painted white and its gable end is divided into three bays by recessed arches." (
