"The fountain was commissioned by the municipality in 1928 from the sculptor Manuel Delgado Brackenbury and designed by Juan Bautista Míguez Roche. It was installed in the square in 1929, the year of the 1929 Ibero-American Exposition . The fountain has sculptures representing the city ( Hispalis is the Roman name for Seville). The toothed wheel symbolizes the industry, the commerce of the caduceus and some leaves agriculture. A woman in a robe is sitting on some kind of large lotus leaves, supported by naked children, mounted on some large turtles.
In 1939 the four children were removed by order of Mayor Eduardo Luca de Tena. In 2015 copies of the same type of stone were made and replaced again.
The Sevilla FC football club is used to celebrating its sporting victories here."
