This community book exchange at Judith H. Robbins Riverfront Park in Attleboro, Massachusetts, takes the form of a little free library. Rustic red exterior and sky blue two-shelf interior, it stands on an upright eastern red cedar log at the north end of the property. Sturdily built, the wood box has a gray asphalt shingle roof with bright metal trim and a square door with an inset acrylic window and shiny hinges and slide latch. An identical little library is about one mile north at Blackinton Park on North Main Street.
The selection was somewhat slim on the day of my visit. Its top shelf had a single adult novel and magazine. The lower shelf was dedicated to children with several picture story books for the very young and some activity workbooks.
The narrow park across from the commuter train station parking runs north-south from Wall Street to Olive Street along the Ten Mile River. It was named in 2017 for Judith H. Robbins, former mayor of 12 years and chair of the city's redevelopment authority for several years who was tragically killed in a 2015 car accident at 78.
