"Hunebed D44 is located in the hamlet of Westenesch near Emmen in the Dutch province of Drenthe.
The hunebed is located in a farmyard on Schietbaanweg. It is the only hunebed in the Netherlands in private ownership.
The hunebed is attributed to the Funnelbeaker Culture.
In fact it is the remains of a hunebed of which only one cover stone remains. This cover stone rests on two support stones. Next to the dolmen is another cover stone with drill holes in it. It is the most ruined hunebed in the Netherlands.
The archaeologist Leonardt Janssen mentions the hunebed in 1848. The archaeologist Albert van Giffen describes the hunebed in 1925: "The hunebed is totally ruined, so that the original state is no longer recognizable, because a pigsty had once been built partly over it." He restored and photographed the hunebed in 1961."
