Her Findagrave page notes that her real passion was volleyball, although it's no surprise that she was also an avid horseback rider in addition to excelling in tennis and volleyball in high school. She attended Hardin Simmons University in Abilene and was a rider of one of their famed Six White Horses. Her professional career of 32 years was as a teacher, while at the same time encouraging her students to take up volleyball. She played, coached, and was an enthusiastic cheerleader and supporter of the game.
