On May 20, 1919, half an hour after noon, explosive gases exploded during the shooting in front of the western main street of the Casimir II seam on the fifth floor.

However, there was not a single explosion left. A few tens of seconds after the air blast was enough to clear the wind and insulating doors to clear the third floor and swirl coal dust there, only insufficiently watered, followed by a second, catastrophic explosion of coal dust, probably from some mine lamp. The disaster claimed 92 lives and caused many more injuries. Only 32 victims could be brought to the surface, because a mine fire, which completed the work of destruction, forced the closure of the entire affected part of the mine.

Fortunately, the third explosion of gases that had accumulated after the imperfect closure of the Squirrel's wind pit under the shaft shutter and leaked to the surface, required no further casualties. It happened on June 26. The blast hit the surface of the wind pit, but there was only material damage. It was only the next day that the flames were extinguished and the pit was sealed, which made it possible to extinguish the fire in the mine after the oxygen depletion.
