Dover-Crescent Road connects Dover (a wide spot on Highway 81) to Crescent (on Highway 74). This red-eared slider was crossing the road from south to north this morning. Traffic was light so I was able to stop, get a few photos, and see him (her?) safely to the other side. That dark spot around him is just what you think it is.

Note: while Oklahoma is home to many species of turtle, if you see one on dry land it's almost certainly either a common box turtle or a red-eared slider.

By chance we were sitting on the porch when we noticed little blandings in the same location we had seen the mother take 2 months earlier."
