The plane was a Lockheed L-049 Constellation named "Star of Dublin".
From an accident report: "While climbing on the intended course, the aircraft experienced loss of bolt vital to the control of the aircraft. The craft was completely destroyed."
The crash site across the street is now private property and has been completely developed for residential housing. You can drive around the perimeter streets of Clarendon Hills Rd. on the east, 61st St. on the south, Bentley Ave. on the west and 59th Street on the north, which affords a view of the area. The debris and bodies were strewn over much of this block.
The memorial, located in Willowbrook's Prairie Trail Park, is dedicated to the numerous First Responders who came to help in the early morning darkness and the many passenger victims (names listed on the memorial.)
