The celebration of Holy Week this year after two years of pandemic has contributed to the fact that the Real Alcázar has harvested in April the best number of visitors since October 2019. Last month, the palace complex, which is now commemorating 90 years After being transferred to the Seville City Council , it received 183,122 people . To find similar data, you have to go back to the month of October 2019 , when 184,873 visitors were counted. In 2019, Holy Week also fell in April and both in that month and in May (Seville Fair), the Alcázar broke records, with 214,396 and 223,603 visitors, respectively.
According to the data provided by the City Council to Europa Press, in the first four months of this year, 483,784 people have visited the palace complex and the forecast is to close 2022 with 1.4 million visits .
A figure that corroborates the confidence in the recovery of tourism in the city, since the forecasts far exceed the 797,008 visitors in 2021 and the 513,298 in 2020, the latter year in which the state of alarm was decreed.
Cathedral
The main monuments of Seville have been resuming the rhythm lost by the pandemic for months. In this line, and in line with the data of the Alcázar, the cathedral has recovered in the month of March more than 54% of the visitors that it had in the same period of 2019 , specifically, 54.7%, which means that 120,624 people enjoyed a visit to the main temple of the Archdiocese in the third month of the year, a figure that is still far from the 220,437 tourists the year before the pandemic.
The monumental complex continues its upward trend in terms of visits recorded in this first quarter of the year, since in January it registered 61,997 and in February, a total of 84,224, according to data provided by official sources of the cathedral. Regarding the origin of the tourists, more than 40% (42.1%) are Spanish. Of the foreigners, the majority are from France (13.1%); Germany (6.8%), the United States (6.4%) and the United Kingdom (6.1%). Italian tourists represented 5.8% and the Portuguese accounted for 1.6% of that total.
