These bunkers were built by the German army in 1916 as part of the Stellung Antwerp. The bunkers of this position are seen as one of the best preserved field positions from the First World War in Belgium.

Capture of Antwerpen (start of WWI)
"The Siege of Antwerp took place at the beginning of the First World War. The attackers were German troops , reinforced by 30.5 cm siege mortars from the Austro-Hungarian artillery . The fortress was defended by Belgian forces , supported by British marines . The siege ended with the fortress having to capitulate and the Belgian field army withdrew to West Flanders. The city was occupied by German troops until November 1918."

After the Capitulation the Germans built fortifications and trenches to defend the city of Antwerp. This bunker is one of the best preserved ones.
