Hier matin pour commémorer la création de la Société des Membres de la Légion d’Honneur (SMLH) une cérémonie s’inscrivant dans un programme national se déroulait à Saint-Gaudens. Après un rassemblement au Belvédère les participants ont constitué un défilé sur le Boulevard Bepmale pour se rendre à l’Esplanade de la Légion d’Honneur.
Depuis 2014, l’Esplanade de la légion d’Honneur est devenue en Comminges le haut-lieu du Souvenir où sont déjà installés les deux monuments: l’un dédié aux Morts et l’autre celui des Trois Maréchaux. Ces monuments sont reconnus comme particulièrement prestigieux et représentatifs. Pour commémorer la création de la Société des Membres de la Légion d’Honneur (la SMLH) le Comité local de la Légion d’Honneur, avec le soutien de la municipalité, a souhaité intégrer au monument aux Morts un bouclier de fonte d’où s’élèvera la Flamme du Souvenir.
Devant un parterre d’autorités civiles et militaires la Flamme du Souvenir a été allumée par le maire Jean-Yves Duclos.
La "Flamme de la Nation" - pusiqu’elle s’adresse à tous les citoyens - a été allumée en présence de la "Flamme sacrée", amenée spécialement de la tombe du Soldat inconnu.
