On August 3rd, 1889, an Ottawa company started to operate streetcars on a rail line that brought passengers to Rockliffe Park. On May 1st 1959, the end of the line for railcars had arrived to be replaced by vehicular traffic.
"I can remember the city doing a fair amount of renovation to the roads around these parts and I thought that was when these tracks were installed. Turns out they have been there much longer than that. In 2007 someone posted a comment on the Skyscraperpage forum inquiring why the tracks were there. A reply to that comment suggested that the tracks might be there as a “design element reflecting Rockcliffe Park's heritage” and the streetcars that used to go there."
