Wesseling - Neuer offener Bücherschrank in Berzdorf eingeweiht
Wesseling - New open bookcase inaugurated in Berzdorf
Wesseling-Berzdorf - Swap and browse around the clock: This is how book lovers might imagine paradise. It is now also possible to browse around the clock in Berzdorf, where a new open bookcase was recently inaugurated.
The bookcase is on the corner of Sternenstraße and Brühler Straße and was paid for by the energy supplier Westenergie. The idea of ??setting up the small library in addition to the bookcase in the city center came from local mayor Ralf Daniel, councilor Ute Meiers and the city's economic development agency.
Mayor Esser: "Bookcases are meeting places for exchanging literature."
The knowledgeable citizens Karina Keller and Robert May, who were also present at the handover, act as honorary godparents for the bookcase. "We are happy about the installation of the second bookcase in the city. They are meeting places for exchanging literature, where people can talk," says Mayor Erwin Esser.
Manfred Hausmann, municipal manager at Westenergie, also emphasized the success story of the open bookcases. Anyone who is interested can now put books that they no longer want in the cupboard, where they await a new owner. Of course, everyone can take their own books from the closet.
Hans-Jürgen Greve designed and built the bookcase. It is made of weatherproof corten steel. The lower compartment in the shelf is intended for children's books, so that the little ones can easily reach their favorite books. There is space for 180 books in total. It was already well filled when it opened. Together, those involved cleared boxes and crates full of books onto the shelves. So there is already an interesting selection to be found there.
