---------------
"The Willeskopper bull" was commissioned by the municipality of Montfoort and is located on the former border between the municipalities of Montfoort and Willeskop.
Grassens depicted a bull in an attacking position towards Montfoort. The bronze plateau on which "De Willeskopper stier" stands is an image of a map of the municipality of Willeskop. The plateau was made following the boundaries of the Willeskop municipality. On the front left, below the Willeskop coat of arms, part of the plateau appears to be missing. That is not the case; the edges of the plateau follow the boundary of the municipality of Montfoort.
The municipality of Willeskop, created on 1 January 1818 by merging the towns of Blokland, Kort-Heeswijk and Willeskop, was dissolved on 31 December 1988, despite fierce resistance from its inhabitants, who, as a sign of protest, had attached a sign to their house depicting a (willed) stubborn bull. The eastern part of Willeskop was added to the municipality of Montfoort, the western part to the municipality of Oudewater. As a reminder, the part of the provincial road N228 that ran through Willeskop was named "Willeskop".
