The Fort is open to tours seasonally, from May through October.

The Blacksmith's Shed is a lean-to and storage building for use by one who could repair weapons, miner's tools, etc, and to make needed items such as hooks, hinges, nails, and horseshoes. (from self guided tour sheet)

The "Lead Mine Fort," as it was called in the 18th century, was built during the Spring of 1778 to protect lead mining operations in Sinking Spring Velley. It was rebuilt as a Bicentennial project of Blair County.
