The sculptor is identified on the lion's hindquarter: Francis Wiles.

In front of the tourist information centre, the war memorial consists of a granite crouching lion on a granite plinth. The memorial was moved to this location after the Second World War. It was originally located farther along the promenade.

I almost missed this waymark category. Thank you.
