Long Description:
A portion of the former ARCO Petroleum Storage Tank Farm in East Providence, Rhode Island, is now home to the 600-foot public Kettle Point Fishing Pier. From 1930 to 1985, there were 25 storage tanks at this 37-acre industrial waterfront property, of which this park is about 3 acres including 1,500 feet of coastline. A collaboration with R.I. Coastal Resources Management Council, RIDEM, Save the Bay, Churchill & Banks, Sage Environmental and others cleaned up and redeveloped the site and opened the space to the public in 2018. A ribbon cutting ceremony was held for the new pier on 27 May 2021.

"The fishing pier complements the East Bay bike path, Squantum State Woods, and extends shoreline public access in an urban area. See before and after photos here.

The wooden pier offers panoramic views of the Providence River and the Downtown skyline to the north. A long boardwalk leads visitors down from the rocky shoreline to a 2,700 square foot pier about 15 feet above the water. Interestingly (curiously?), there is just a single, built-in bench for seating on the entire 90 ft x 30 ft area. A commercial shipping lane, cargo and tanker vessels navigate the waters along with the Newport Ferry from the India Point terminal and recreational boaters and kayakers.

Access the pier by foot or bike along the East Bay Bike Path. Drivers can park at a lot west of University Orthopedics Kettle Point, 1 Kettle Point Avenue, East Providence, RI.

As for fishing, there are no services or amenities. Nearest is Archie's Bait and Tackle at 292 Bullocks Point Ave, Riverside, RI -- about 2.5 miles to the south. A report in The Providence Journal from today, 6 May 2022:

Tautog fishing improved this week with anglers catching keepers throughout the Bay and along the coastal shore. “[On Monday], tautog fishing exploded at India Point. Anglers fishing with light jigs [half-ounce] were on fire,” said Dave Henault of Ocean State Tackle in Providence. “We weighed in a 10-pound fish that was caught in Narragansett with fish being caught throughout the Bay," Giddings said. Kayak angler Tom Houde reported: “I did pretty good Sunday fishing for tautog on my kayak in the West bay. Landed three nice keepers but had to weed though a dozen shorts.” Littlefield said: “Keeper tautog are being caught at Kettle Point, India Point Park and at Colt State Park in the rocky shore area.
