The Harry Potter shop is a gift shop that sells licensed Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts merchandise. It was previously known as The Shop That Cannot Be Named in a reference to Voldemort from the Harry Potter books by author J.K.Rowling.

The shop located on The Strand in Longton was rebranded Potteries Potions just a few weeks after it opened in October 2020.

"Whether you're a Hufflepuff, Gryffindor, Slytherin or Ravenclaw, there's something for you at Stoke-on-Trent's very own magical Harry Potter shop which is back open after lockdown.

Potteries Potions, on The Strand, Longton, is spread across two floors and sells an array of collectables, wands, Butterbeer and house-themed robes.

The store is owned by wizarding world fans and married couple Kay and Lee Burgess, from Weston Coyney, who launched their Potter paradise in October 2020.

Upstairs, you'll find house and Hogwarts clothing, as well as a section for Dobby and a dedicated forest area featuring Hagrid and his friends - but watch out for Aragog's spider babies!

Since the store first opened, the upstairs windows have been blacked out with a star print covering to maintain the magical atmosphere.

As well as the Potter memorabilia, the store has had its own branded merchandise - including mugs - handmade by Baldwins Gate-based Black Star Ceramics."

The report by Hayley Parker appeared on StokeonTrentLive on 16th October 2020, and reads as follows;

'Stoke-on-Trent's Harry Potter shop now has a new name - and fans are divided'

"So do you think the new name is wizard or cursed?
The new Harry Potter shop in Stoke-on-Trent has changed its name just weeks after officially launching.

Previously known as The Shop That Cannot Be Named in a reference to Voldemort, the branch in Longton has been rebranded Potteries Potions.

Announcing the move on Facebook, a spokesman said: "We now have a new name - we are Potteries Potions. We're still selling licensed Harry Potter greatness just with a name more fitting with our surroundings."

The move has split opinion among Harry Potter fans with some preferring the old moniker.

One woman said: "I liked the old name because that made me sit up and want to visit because my family love Harry Potter but with the new name, I never would have thought of visiting."

A second added: "I absolutely loved the previous name but don’t care about names. Just care about the HP products."

However, others liked the nod to the city's heritage.

One woman said: "The new name promotes the Potteries and the significance of the area the shop is in. Very clever."

The store on The Strand has proved popular since opening with dozens queuing up to take a look inside on launch day.

Hundreds of fans of the wizarding-world franchise purchased wands, chess sets and chocolate from the shop when it opened on October 5.

And the opening hours have also been reviewed to keep up with demand.

The shop is hosting a magical event on November 7, where muggles can meet a real life Headwig as The Falconry visits Longton Exchange Shopping Centre.

The event is free to attend, with a donation to the birds if your little wizard or witch would like a photograph with them."
