The stained glass window in the nave is dedicated to Lt. Nicholas Gifford Edmonds, killed at the Battle of Magersfontein (visit link) , 1899.

The entry in the Palmer Casualty roll shows:
"Edmonds, N.G. Lt., Killed in action, Magersfontein, 11/12/99, 2nd Black Watch". Lieutenant Nicholas Gifford Edmonds, 2nd Bn., Royal Highlanders, was killed in action at Magersfontein, 11/12/99. He was the son of W. Edmonds Esq., of Wiscome Park, Colyton, was born December 1872, and educated at Wellington, where he was in Saunders' House 1887-90. He joined the Royal Highlanders, from the Royal Military College, October 1893, being promoted Lieutenant May 1898. He embarked for South Africa in October of 1899.
He received the Queen's South Africa medal with clasp "Cape Colony".

The inscription on the window reads -

TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN AFFECTIONATE MEMORY OF NICHOLAS GIFFORD EDMONDS Lieut
2nd BLACK WATCH HIGHLANDERS KILLED NEAR THE BOER TRENCHES AT THE BATTLE OF MAGERSFONTEIN
SOUTH AFRICA 11 DEC 1899 ERECTED BY HIS FELLOW PARISHIONERS OF SOUTHLEIGH AND THEIR FRIENDS
