Beijing-Capital International Airport (IATA code: PEK • ICAO code: ZBAA) is the main airport in the municipality of Beijing, capital of the Republic of China.

Located twenty kilometers northeast of the city center, in the Chaoyang district, it is managed by the company “Beijing Capital International Airport Company Limited”.

Beijing International Airport was opened on March 2, 1958. At that time, only a small building (now called the South Airport) was used mainly for VIP passengers and charter planes.

Commissioned on January 1, 1980, at that time it had an area of ??60,000 m2.

Since 2009, the airport has become the first airport in Asia. It rose to 2nd place in the world in 2013. In 2015, more than 90,203,000 passengers were recorded.

The airport has three terminals: T1, T2 and T3.

Terminal 1, the smallest and oldest of the three, is reserved for Hainan Airlines domestic flights only.

Terminal 2 is used for its domestic part by the Chinese companies China Southern, China Eastern as well as for the international flights of the other companies of the Skyteam alliance.

Terminal 3, inaugurated on February 29, 2008, with an area of ??98 hectares, is the largest airport terminal in the world, larger than London Heathrow Airport. It was built to respond to the difficulties linked to the increase in attendance since the economic boom and in anticipation of the organization of the 2008 Summer Olympics. It brings the number of potential travelers to 76 million per year.
