At the Port Basin Fishing Port, you can walk into Capt. John's Wild Reef Seafood Market harborside and buy beautiful shrimp or fat blue crabs that were swimming around happily in Matagorda Bay or Lavaca Bay an hour ago.
Scully's Sports Bar and Grill is located right on the Lavaca Bay side of the Port Basin fishing harbor. Scully's has its own delivery pier, where fishing boats can pull up and offload their catch of fresh seafood straight into the hands of Scully's staff. Once cleaned and ready to cook, this fresh-off-the-boat seafood goes straight to the chef, who cooks it to order: fried, blackened, grilled, or Cajun style.
Port Lavaca's Port Basin Fishing Harbor would be a lot busier if the State of Texas had not shut down all oyster fishing on the Texas Gulf Coast. The Texas Gulf coast is still open for shrimping, so this port remains home to dozens of shrimp boats -- but the oyster boats have gone to Louisiana where the oyster fishery there is open, until the "Non-R months" arrive and it's time for oyster spawning season.
Blasterz also had the bad luck to be visiting this harbor when many shrimp and crab boats were out. Of course the place was jammed with boats after sunset!
