When this bridge on Comal Road was washed out by Hurricane Harvey in 2017, it was replaced with a wooden plank bridge, which will be more cost efficient to replace when it inevitably gets washed out by the next hurricane.
The area around the old townsite of Indianola is now transitioning into a cabin community where few folks live year-round, only coming down for weekends. Many of the "cabins" are highly portable half-sized sea-going containers that have been converted into living spaces with windows and air conditioning. When hurricanes are inbound, these can be rolled into flat-bed trucks and carried away.
In 2017 this bridge was washed out by Hurricane Harvey. Given the very low amount of daily traffic and the fact that most folks here drive around in golf carts, the washed out concrete bridge was replaced with the sturdy wooden plank bridges that continue to serve today.
