According to the Fletcher Hotel website:
"From 1918 to 1989, the four lime kilns were the face of the Gooi harbor town of Huizen. The original function of these lime kilns was to burn shells from "the sea" into quicklime. A fun fact: shells consist of no less than 95 percent of carbonated lime. This industry ended in the 1970s and the lime kilns were demolished in 1989.
However, the beautiful cultural heritage was restored in 1997. After that, the building was put into use with a new unique function. An event location where the remarkable historical appearance has been preserved."
